Taishan Unit 1 : the world’s first EPR

Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Macron unveiled the world’s first EPR program (European Pressurized Reactor) –Guangdong Taishan Nuclear Power project in Beijing’s Great Hall.

 

Unit 1 of Taishan Nuclear Power Plant started the construction in 2009 and Unit 2 started construction in 2010, which are respectively the third and fourth EPR under construction in the world. Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co., Ltd., a joint venture between EDF, YUDEAN Group and China General Nuclear Group (“CGN”), oversees the construction and operation. Taishan Project is the largest cooperation project between China and France in the energy field.

 

According to CGN, on December 30, 2015, Taishan Nuclear Power Unit 1 began the cold functional test.

At present, Taishan Unit 1 completed the thermal functional test, while Unit 2 in the equipment installation phase.
