Construction of a solar power steam plant in Oman

Glass Point Solar and Occidental Oman signed a cooperation agreement to build a 2 GW solar steam plant in Mekhyzeneh field in Oman.

According to the agreement, Glass Point will use its solar technology to produce up to 100,000 barrels of steam a day; as Occidental Oman will use the steam for heavy oil production.

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Glass Point have also launched the “Mirror” solar power steam plant project in February, and Mirror is expected to become one of the largest solar projects in the world once the project is completed.

The State General Reserve Fund of Oman (SGRF) – a sovereign wealth fund run by the Ministry of Investment – is a senior shareholder of Glass Point. In 2014, the State Reserve Fund invested US $ 53 million in Glass Point, as well as Royal Dutch Shell and other investors to accelerate the deployment of solar-powered oil enhanced extraction in Oman and across the region.
