China General Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd. (CGN) and Romanian National Nuclear Power Corporation signed “Initial Investor Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Venture Company for Cernavoda Unit 3&4 “. The signing ceremony was held in Romanian Ministry of Energy. Bian Shuming, General Manager of CGN Central and Eastern Europe Investment (Romania) Co., Ltd., and Robert,State Secretary of Romanian Ministry of Energy and Chairman of Romanian National Nuclear Power Company, signed the agreement on behalf of both companies.
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said at the signing ceremony that the new nuclear power unit will play a key role in carbon reduction. The project will not only provide clean and safe energy but is also estimated to provide 19,000 jobs.
Romanian Energy Minister Anton said, “In the first two years, the joint venture will analyze and determine the project implementation path, laying a solid foundation for the follow-up construction of the two units.”
Note: Units 1 and 2 of Cernavoda nuclear power plant in southeastern Rome were commissioned in 1996 and 2007 respectively. In September 2010, CGN began to promote the market development of units 3 and 4. In November 2013, CGN and the Romanian National Nuclear Power Company signed a relevant letter of intent and signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2015.
