A Chinese virtual nuclear power plant

Chinese scientists have developed a virtual nuclear power plant in a digital society, a software system to assess the safety and efficiency of nuclear energy systems. The research on the system is called Virtual4DS.

Advanced numerical simulations make it possible to restore complex physical processes as much as possible and to predict the behavior and safety performance of the nuclear energy system.

Developed by scientists from the Institute of Nuclear Energy Security Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the system uses information technology to establish an integrated simulation platform for the entire world.

Virtual4DS can analyze nuclear reactor safety, radiation protection and environmental impact, providing a research tool for the design and evaluation of nuclear safety, accident alerts, emergency decision-making, and social risk assessment.

Virtual4DS is connected to the information system of a nuclear power plant, and its core modules are used in nuclear engineering projects such as ITER, the world’s largest experimental nuclear fusion reactor, and the Chinese lead base reactor.
