Construction permit for El-Dabaa NPP mid-2022

Dr. Mohamed Shaker, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, explained that El Dabaa nuclear power plant project is proceeding at a regular and fast pace according to the project’s timetable, stressing that the new year will witness a remarkable development on the ground regarding the nuclear plant.

Shaker added that the construction of a dock is underway to receive the equipment for starting the construction of the nuclear plant, stressing that everyone is racing against time to finish the project on time.

Dr. Amjad Al-Wakeel, head of the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority, confirmed in press statements that the dock will take 21 months to complete, pointing out that it is expected to be completed before the specified period.

Dr. Amjad Al Wakeel expected that a permit will be issued to accept the construction site for El Dabaa in mid-2022, confirming that the project observations are being avoided so that the construction permit will be issued, which allows the start of laying the concrete bases for the nuclear reactors.

The application for the construction permit was submitted on March 10, 2019, to start the construction of El-Dabaa NPP. The permit was expected to be issued June 2021.

The 4 reactors in El-Dabaa NPP will be implemented featuring the Russian 3+ generation VVER 1200 nuclear reactors.

Al-Wakeel confirmed that additional safety measures have been added, so that the plant has an unprecedented ability to resist massive accidents. It can withstand the collision of a plane weighing 400 tons and a speed of 150 meters per second!

This type of nuclear reactor is also characterized by its safe operation without any negative effects on the surrounding environment, and it contains a modern auto control system.
