About the Anshas reactor

Anshas reactorIt’s the first nuclear research reactor in Egypt for tests built by the Soviet Union in 1958.

The Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (AEA)is the operator of the plant based in the nuclear research center at Inshas ,which is located 40-60 kilometers northeast of Cairo.

The reactor is water tank light (WWER) with a capacity of 2 MW including payload and fuel elementary of 3.2 kg of uranium U235 enrichment of 10% (EK -10)

During the eighties, the reactor has been modernized under the supervision the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In April 2010, one of the reactor cooling pumps ETRR-1 was damaged, the accident was reported and fixed immediately, without any leakage of radioactive water.
