Considering that Akkuyu Nuclear Company has fulfilled the obligations of the relevant legislation related to the electricity market, for Turkey’s first nuclear power plant project Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has been granted an operating reactor license for a period of 49 years to enter into force on June 15, 2017.
It is envisaged that after it is completely taken into operation,
Akkuyu NPP will have a capacity of 8,000 hours of annual working time, continuous and regular capacity of electricity production and 4,800 megawatt installed capacity which will meet about 6-7% of the electric energy demand of the country.
According to the agreement between the nations, the entry into operation of the first unit of Akkuyu NPP was 2025. However, Akkuyu Nuclear Company declared that they will catch up with the date of October 29, 2023, the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.
