Algeria’s Energy Strategy

Professor Al Majeed Barqooq has said in Algerian energy economic plan consists mainly of aims to exploit renewable energy resources, especially solar energy. The country’s goal is represented in “Afaq 2030” agenda, which aims at providing 40% of energy to national consumption with frequent assets. For that reason, the government has established the National Fund for Renewable Energy, which will fund any renewable energy project, especially solar energy projects.

Since the Algerian government believes that renewable energy will never vanish and is much safer for the environment, it started to encourage renewable energy projects, such as Adrar solar power plant that generates 10 MW of energy and heat energy power plant in Hasi Ar’ramel that generates 150 MW.

Thus, the Algerian policy in the energy sector is trying to replace oil and petroleum energy with renewable energy.
