Amazul nuclear projects for strategic programs

Amazônia Azul Tecnologias de Defesa SA, ( Amazul) a technology company, knowledge management, innovation, and engineering projects in the nuclear area, presented the schemes of the strategic programs at the summit Defense & Security 2019, in Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro, last April.

Amazul was established in 2013 to promote, develop, transfer and maintain technologies sensitive to the activities of the Marine Nuclear Program (PNM), Submarine Development Program (ProSub) and Brazilian Nuclear Program (PNB). Within PNM, it operates in the projects to build, commission and operate nuclear power reactor, all nationally, and for industrial-scale production of nuclear fuel. The technology could be used both to equip the submarine with atomic propulsion and to power a city.

Concerning ProSub, Amazul is committed to seeking partnerships with companies to increase the nationalization of conventional submarines and nuclear propulsion, also contributing to the strengthening of the defense industrial base. Through technical cooperation agreements, it helps to develop technologies such as the integrated management system and the submarine combat system.

The company, in partnership with the National Nuclear Energy Commission (Cnen), is a co-executor of the project of the Multipurpose Brazilian Reactor (RMB), focused on research, material testing and production of radioisotopes for application in several areas, such as industry, agriculture, environment, and nuclear medicine. However, the primary mission of the RMB is to supply the Brazilian market of inputs for the production of radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer.

Amazul has about 1,850 employees, 90% of them focused on the company’s end-of-life activities, operating in strategic programs.
