The Indonesian National Nuclear Energy Agency (Batan) is ready to partner with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a collaboration center for human resource development and nuclear education in the Asia Pacific region.
“The readiness is demonstrated through Natan Technology High School (STTN) which has facilities, resources experienced in human resource development, and educational program,” declared Batan Chairman Edy Giri Rachman Putra in Yogyakarta.
STTN Batan hosted the “Regional Training Course for Teacher” with the theme “Introducing Nuclear Science in Schools Through Innovative Approach” on 16-27 April 2018.
The event, followed by 27 participants from 16 Asia Pacific countries, aimed to train science teachers at secondary schools in IAEA member countries to strengthen their understanding of the topic of nuclear science and technology and deliver it to students through an effective and engaging teaching process.
The activity is part of the IAEA’s efforts to assist member countries in developing future nuclear workforce. The training also aims to assist IAEA member countries in developing educational materials and practical approaches.
The activity was first initiated in 2014, and Indonesia became one of the pilot countries that successfully implemented the program.
Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Oman, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Pakistan, Jordan, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Lebanon and Indonesia sent representatives to the training.
