Barakah I obtained the license to generate electricity

Barakah I, a joint venture between Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO), has obtained a power generation license from the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

The Energy Department is responsible for planning and setting the direction of the energy sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The license, which was issued to Barakah, is a major regulatory requirement before the start of operation of the Barakah nuclear power plants in the Dhafra area of ​​the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

“The production of electricity from nuclear power is one of the best options in the long term to produce safe, reliable and environmentally friendly electrical energy,” said “Awaidah Morshed Al Marar”, head of the Abu Dhabi Energy Department. He also expressed his feel of pride and honor that the UAE is the first in the Gulf region to start this ambitious journey. As the license granted to the company “Barakah I”, is the first of its kind in the Arab region to produce electricity from nuclear energy.

“Ensuring energy security and providing an adequate supply of electricity is one of the strategic priorities of the Energy Department”, Al Marar said. He also expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with Emirates Energy Corporation and its subsidiaries to support the implementation of the UAE nuclear project, promote the country’s sustainable development process and meet the economic aspirations and needs of future generations of electricity.
