Belarusian NPP will be ready for the importation of nuclear fuel in early 2019

Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Rumas, discussed the progress of work at the power plant with Rosatom general director Alexei Likhachev and the importation of nuclear fuel in early 2019. As explained by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko, the Belarusian side is satisfied with the progress of work, the issues will be settled in the next two weeks.

Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy Director General for Operational Management of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom announced later that the Belarusian NPP will be ready for the importation of nuclear fuel in early 2019.

“The plant will be ready for fuel delivery early next year, about a month before the connection to the grid launch, which should be in April” said Alexander Lokshin. “Installation works are being completed, and the commissioning begins. This year, a landmark key event is the energization of a complete switchgear. and we hope to reach the stage of Hydrostatic pressure testing plan – this is practically the beginning of the commissioning of the main systems of the unit”.

The Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW is being built according to the Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno region). The first power unit is planned to be commissioned in 2019, the second – in 2020.
