Last December, the foreign ministers of Argentina, Jorge Faurie, and Brazil, Aloysio Nunes, signed, within the framework of the LIII Meeting of the Common Market Council of the South (Mercosur), a declaration to deepen their nuclear cooperation with emphasis on the business sector.
The LIII Meeting of the Council of the Common Market of the South American bloc includes the foreign ministers of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, and of the vice chancellor of Paraguay, Bernardino Hugo Saguier.
Also, present were the seven foreign ministers of the Associated States of the bloc, Bolivia, which is in the process of accession, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname.
Despite being a State Party to Mercosur, Venezuela is suspended in all the rights and obligations inherent to its membership, in accordance with the provisions of the Ushuaia Protocol on the democratic commitment in the bloc.
Brazil and Argentina are working together within the framework of the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC) and the new objectives are to develop new products such as isotopes for use in medicine, nuclear reactors, and scientific research.
