China soft power in Uruguay

The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay organized a meeting with companies in the sector of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the Chinese ambassador in Uruguay, Wang Gang. The dialogue was held at the Antel Telecommunications Tower on June 7.

The meeting sought to give continuity to the work carried out in the inter-institutional mission that toured China , headed by Minister Carolina Cosse, in February 2018, and whose objective was to promote cooperation in ICT and attract investment. The recent assumption of Ambassador Gang is timely to generate this space and deepen the ties between both countries.

During the dialogue, Minister Cosse said that it is necessary to accompany “national capacities” to develop and stressed that Uruguayan companies can offer China a high level of institutional and human resources. As an example, he recalled that a Uruguayan software company is already installed in the Asian country.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador stressed that there is a “substantial development” and a “great potential” of relations between China and Uruguay, particularly in the fields of infrastructure and investment.
