Coronavirus plagues El Dabaa nuclear project

The Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Authority is expected to delay the issuance of a license to start implementation of the Dabaa nuclear power plant project; this means further delays in the implementation of the NPP.

Dr. Amjad Al-Wakeel, head of the Nuclear Power Plant Authority, said the agency has submitted all documents and documents to the Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Authority to obtain permission for the construction of the nuclear power plant.

He expected the license to be issued in the second half of 2022 rather than the middle of this year, noting the submission of the first safety analysis report, which was the largest of the first two nuclear energy licensing documents at 36,110 pages in the Unit 4 project. unit.

He added that the coronavirus was the main reason for delaying the issuance of construction permits on more than one occasion, explaining that communication is maintained with Rosatom, which implements the El Dabaa project.

He noted that work on the El Dabaa NPP is ongoing in parallel with the completion of the license, explaining that despite the current pandemic situation, Russian companies are working hard to prevent any delays in the timeline.

The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant received a site approval license from the Nuclear and Radiation Authority on March 10, 2019. This is an acknowledgment that the site and its characteristics comply with Egyptian requirements and those of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and reflects the assurance of safe and reliable operation of nuclear facilities.
