Argentina and Uruguay agreement on radiological and nuclear safety

Last October, the president of the Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) of the Argentine Republic, Néstor Masriera, and the director of the Regulatory Authority National in Radiation Protection (ARNR) of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) of Uruguay, Walter Cabral signed the agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.   

 

The cooperation agreement aims at the continuous improvement of the radiological and nuclear safety of the region. It will cover topics of protection and physical security, as well as legal aspects. Some of the issues of interest in the exchange will be: 

  • Safety standards and criteria; 
  • Technical information and related regulatory documentation; 
  • Collaboration between scientific and technical personnel for their specific training or training; 
  • Exchange of scientific and technical staff for advice on regulatory inspections, safety assessments, in the preparation of statutory documentation, in legal aspects and other scientific and technical support activities; 
  • Information and cooperation on issues of licensing of facilities and practices; 
  • Capacity assessment and response in cases of radiological and nuclear emergency; 

 

The ARN and MIEM-ARNR are members of the Ibero-American Forum of Radiological and Nuclear Bodies.  The objective is to contribute and promote nuclear, radiological, and physical safety in the Ibero-American region.
