GCC and UAE position on North Korea nuclear test

Pyongyang declared recently it successfully tested a miniature nuclear warhead that could be mounted on a missile.

According to the South Korean’s meteorological agency, with a force of 10 kilotonnes, or the equivalent of 10,000 tonnes of TNT, the blast was smaller than the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima in August 1945.

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani declared to the international press that North Korean actions were snubbing the international community and violating the UN Security Council Resolutions on the nuclear issue of North Korea.

The UAE strongly condemned the nuclear test. It stressed that the test constitutes a challenge to the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions and poses a real threat to global peace and security.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation called for the need to safeguard the regime of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the world.

It stressed that the violation of these rules and international norms constitutes a flagrant threat to, and a breach of the of the relevant Security Council resolutions.

The ministry’s statement called the international community to take all necessary measures to counter these violations and protect international peace and security.
