IAEA and Argentina support Saudi Arabia to join the nuclear power market

The Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Faleh, met at the headquarters of the Council of Ministers in Riyadh, with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano and his assistant Kolenth Bridi to announce that Saudi Arabia is joining the Nuclear Energy market.
During the meeting, they discussed issues pertaining to atomic energy, including measures taken by the Kingdom to introduce atomic energy as part of its energy system, with the international energy senior official lauding the program inserted by the Kingdom in its national transformation program and expressed happiness of the outcomes of the workshop held by King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy with IAEA last August.
Yukiya Amano lauded the Kingdom’s positions and policies and clear position towards disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, citing the Kingdom’s effective role in the governors council in its former session and within IAEA’s general assembly.
Mr. Amano expressed appreciation of the Kingdom for its donation to the renewal of IAEA’s lab in the Austrian city of Seibersdorf and the Kingdom’s establishing a center for nuclear security.
The President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Hashem bin Abdullah Yamani met later on Yukiya Amano.
During the meeting, Mr. Amano was briefed on the developments related to the atomic energy in the region and the works of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy for the introduction of nuclear energy within the energy system in the Kingdom.

Following the visit of IAEA, The President of K.A.CARE Dr. Hashem Abdullah Yamani received in K.A.CARE headquarters HE the Vice President of the Republic of Argentina Mrs. Marta Gabriela Michetti who was paying an official visit to the Kingdom.

K.A.CARE and the Republic of Argentina agree to start a cooperation model in the areas of peaceful uses of the atomic and renewable energy as part of the Kingdom’s 2030 vision were discussed.  Finally, during this visit, Mrs. Michetti went to Mishkat Interactive Exhibition which is considered one of K.A.CARE initiatives during the visit a film about sustainable energy in the kingdom was screened and the most important exhibited items were  viewed.

 

Note:

The Kingdom has won the membership to IAEA Board of Governors in as a gesture of the international community appreciation of the Kingdom’s efforts in the scope of atomic energy.

 

In 2011, The Ministry of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services, Mr. Julio De Vido, on behalf of Argentina and Hashim bin Abdullah Yamani, Chairman of K.A. CARE, on behalf of Saudi Arabia, have signed a bilateral agreement that establishes a legal framework for economical, scientific and technological cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
