Kickoff of the 2nd batch project of CNNC’s Dragon Program

In the middle of May, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) held the “2017 Science & Technology Work Conference” in Beijing. It signifies the 2nd batch of the scientific and technological innovation project in the *Dragon Program has been fully started and executed.

 

According to the project plan, CNNC will mainly focus on the following 6 points in future:

 

  1. Promote the large-scale construction of the EPR;
  2. Accelerate the demonstration project of the Sodium-cooled fast neutron reactor and the spent fuel reprocessing project construction;
  3. Construct the new type pilot project such as the HTGR;
  4. Propose new technological project such as the floating nuclear power plant on the sea;
  5. Promote the smart small nuclear reactor in the pilot project;
  6. Give priority to the self-designed nuclear technology.

 

On the sidelines of the meeting, CNNC issued the “Mid-long Term S&T Innovation Development Strategic Outlines (2030)”.

 

*The Dragon Program, firstly released by CNNC in 2012, is a major initiative to rely on innovation to promote the development and the strategy of the corporation. The 1st batch projects include 8 scientific & technological innovation demonstration projects and 12 core technology improvement projects. According to CNNC, all of them will be either started or finished by 2020.
