Macao and Guangdong Nuclear Power Station Nuclear Accident Emergency Cooperation

On January 8, 2018, the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Guangdong Provincial Government jointly signed the “Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Consensus on Nuclear Emergency of Guangdong Nuclear Power Station” (“Consensus”) in Zhuhai. Both sides said that to effectively deal with possible accidents at nuclear power plants in Taishan and surrounding areas, it is necessary to establish a Constant nuclear emergency cooperation mechanism.

Macao SAR Secretary of Security Department Huang Shaoze and deputy director of the National Nuclear Emergency Response Office Yao Bin attended the signing ceremony.

 

According to “Consensus”, Guangdong Province will timely notify Macao of the incidents in accordance with the international nuclear classification (level 0-7) and the national level 4 nuclear emergency status (emergency standby, plant emergency, site emergency and off-site emergency) It focus on the nuclear power plants that have been put into operation in Guangdong Province. In addition, the “consensus” also confirmed that Guangdong and Macao will hold annual nuclear emergency meetings, off-site emergency support mechanisms and organize technical training.
