Regional Workshop on the Evaluation of Threat and the Development of a Base Design Threat

The Radiological and Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARRN) participates in the Regional Workshop on the Evaluation of the Threat and the Development of a Base Design Threat, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from Monday, June 18 to Thursday, June 21. The meeting is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The purpose of the workshop is to provide a step-by-step methodology for developing, using and maintaining a design-based threat (ABD), including a threat assessment, that can support the development of an ABD according to the national characteristics of the site or of the activity.

The Radiological and Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARRN) participated also in the Ninth Meeting of the Representatives of the Competent Authorities in the Convention on the Prompt Notification of Nuclear Accidents and the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency. Mr. Ildefonso Riquelme, Inspection Director, participated on behalf of the ARRN.

The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information on the mechanisms and difficulties at the national level regarding emergency preparedness and response (PRCE); to examine the application of the Convention on Early Notification, the Convention on Assistance and the security requirements related to the notification and exchange of information, the provision of international assistance (in particular, regarding education and training of PRCE) and communication with the public, listed in the IAEA safety standards.
