Reinforcement of the soil for Bushehr 2

The contract for the establishment of two new nuclear power units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant between Russia and Iran was signed in November 2014. For units 2 and 3, they will be supplied with the Russian VV-1000, safety requirements.

The Bushehr-2 project, according to the Iranian side, is worth about USD 10 billion and is expected to take 10 years to complete. The inauguration ceremony of the Bushehr-2 project was held on 10 September 2016.

After the excavation work which started on September 2017, Rosatom officialised the mechanically stabilized earth work in Bushehr 2 last month(May 3rd), before the first concrete day (FCD) which is planned for the third quarter of 2019.

This reinforcement of the soil is essential to strengthen the construction basis, and ensure resilience to the weather conditions and possible earthquakes.

According to the statement, the drilling of the land is scheduled to begin for the construction of power unit No. 3 in 2018, indicating that all work is in line with the timetable.

Bushehr is one piece of the newbuild in Iran. Still in May the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif Khonsari visited Beijing to discuss other nuclear deals with China.
