The Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) has revealed the total production capacity of new and renewable energy in the country during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019/2020. Hydroelectric productivity recorded up to 4365 GWh, and wind energy projects recorded about 1,000 GWh, while the solar production capacity, which is connected to the grid, reached about 875 GWh, in addition to 1 GWh generated from bio-fuel projects.
The second periodic bulletin of the Authority, pointed to finalization of the commercial operation of the Benban solar complex in Aswan Governorate with a capacity of 1465 MW, and the completion of the first wind station under a BOO system with a capacity of 250 MW in the Gulf of Suez, as well as other projects in various stages of development with total capacity of about 2200 MW.
The Cabinet also approved the issuance of a feed tariff for electricity produced from solid waste and sewage treatment at 1.4 pounds per KWh, which is expected to increase the frequency of these projects during the coming period.
