Rosatom supplies nuclear fuel components to the second atomic reactor in Egypt

Russian TVEL, a Rosatom company, and the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA), have jointly signed a ten-year contract for the supply of uranium and aluminum components of low enriched nuclear fuel to the ETRR-2 research reactor, according a press release issued by the Russian company on April 6th.

The ETRR-2 research reactor, designed by Argentina, is located at the Atomic Research Center in Inshas, and it is used for research in particle physics, material studies, as well as the production of radioisotopes.

TVEL is also looking to develop its business in Egypt by supplying nuclear fuel to all four power units in El Dabaa nuclear power plant, with a total capacity of 4,800 MW, which is being implemented by Rosatom.

The Central Design Institute and the Technological Institute, of TVEL branches, participated in the project to establish a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel from El Dabaa nuclear plant as a sub-contractor for design work.

TVEL Fuel Company, Rosatom Fuel Division, supplies nuclear fuel to 73 nuclear reactors around the world, in 13 countries for power generation, and in 8 countries for research. It supplies the nuclear marine propulsion reactors of the Russian fleet. It is estimated that one in every six power reactors in the world is powered by TVEL fuel.
