Russia and the Philippines could sign agreements to develop the nuclear energy sector and build a subway in the Asian country, said Harry Roque, spokesman for Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
This was advanced by the official after concluding a meeting of Duterte with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the summit of the Forum of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) that ended on November 11 in Vietnam.
“They (Russia) have corporations that would like to do business in the energy field and there is a company that promotes nuclear energy and would like to do business with the Philippines,” Roque was quoted as saying by The Manila Times.
The spokesman added that “there are Russian companies looking to invest in transport projects.”
Roque indicated that the agreements could be signed during the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that welcomes Manila from November 12 to 14 and will be attended by the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The Russian head of government will intervene on November 13 at the ASEAN business forum on the development of infrastructure for the future.
That same day, Medvedev plans to meet with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
Heads of State and Government from around twenty countries, including US President Donald Trump, will participate in the ASEAN summit; China’s prime ministers, Li Keqiang; from Japan, Shinzo Abe; from Canada, Justin Trudeau; from India, Narendra Mori; among others.
