Russian – Indian negotiations to choose the site for a new nuclear power plant

The General Director of the Russian state nuclear energy company “Rosatom” announced that “substantive negotiations” has been started with India to choose a site for building a new nuclear power plant.

“We are now discussing in detail with India a new location for further expansion of our construction site,” he added.

Rosatom is building the Kudankulam NPP in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. On the sidelines of the Russian – Indian summit in New Delhi held in October 2018, a document was signed between Russia and India on cooperation in new projects in the field of nuclear energy.

India has been consulting about options available to locate a new nuclear power plant in the country, but there is still no final decision on the exact construction site for the plant.
