Saudi Arabia will build two nuclear reactors

The media has recently quoted that Saudi Arabia has sent an Information Request “RFI” about two nuclear reactors to different specialized institutions worldwide. The “RFI” is the first step towards initiating a new project officially.

This project will be part of Saudi Arabia’s National Project for Atomic Energy. Saudi is planning to build 16 nuclear reactors within 20-25 years. The cost of these reactors is more than 80 Billion USD. Alongside with these reactors, Saudi is also willing to build other small reactors for water desalination. The project will provide 17 GW of nuclear power by 2040 and will cover 15% of power generation afterwards. In addition to nuclear energy, Saudi is investing in solar energy that will provide 40 GW of electricity by 2040.
