From March 19-23, 2018, the Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) conducted a one-week workshop on Shielding Calculation in Industrial Radiological Applications in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The recipient was the National Energy Commission (CNE) as the country Regulatory Authority. This is part of the undergoing collaboration CNE-RSRP aiming to strengthen Radiation Protection in the country.
The workshop is designed with the goal of improving Regulatory capabilities to adequately support the safe operation and management of radioactive sources and generators commonly used in industry facilities. Topics included shielding requirements for Radioactive Sources and X-Ray generators, Design of Sources Storage Rooms, and Effective Dose Estimation both in Operation and Emergency scenarios. The activity integrated the development of many practical examples by the participants which were supervised by the instructors.
