US-Turkey lobbying groups in motion

Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) in collaboration with the US Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) organized a panel in Washington D.C. with the participation of Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek.

The representatives of the Atlantic Council, the German Marshall Fund, the Georgetown University, the Washington Institute, US Department of State and US Department of Commerce as well as senior executives from giant American companies such as Abbott, Apple, Boeing, Cargill, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, Metlife, Pfizer and Coca-Cola participated to the panel.

THO President, Ali Çınar, noted that Turkey-US relations have a long history. According to the OECD data, Turkey’s economy is expected to be one of the fastest growing economies among the member countries in the 10-year period covering 2015-2025, and the free trade agreement in negotiation with the new US administration promises a significant potential.

Mr. Çınar emphasized that Turkey, which is the world’s 17th largest economy, increased its trade volume with the US by nearly three times in the last 10 years and reached 19 billion dollars. “There is potential for this volume to grow even further. More than 1,500 American companies operate currently in Turkey. The incentives need to be sustained in order for more companies to come. ”

Note: The Turkish Heritage Organization (THO)
