The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, received at the Hussainiya Palace a delegation from the International advisory committee for the Jordanian nuclear program.
King Abdullah II stressed on the importance of producing nuclear energy to boost the competitiveness of the Jordanian economy, pointing out that this project must be done in partnership with the private sector and with international support.
The King stressed the need to ensure the highest levels of safety and performance, and to take advantage of the rapid technological developments in the world in this field.
The head of the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Dr. Khaled Touqaan, gave a brief about the progress of the Jordanian nuclear program with its three aspects: uranium exploration and mining, Jordan’s research and training reactor at Jordan University of science and technology and the construction of a nuclear power plant for the purpose of electricity generation.
The government created an international advisory committee of the nuclear energy program included Dr. Marouf Al Bakhit , former prime minister and David Whitman, former head of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), as well as a number of international experts.
It is noteworthy that the Jordanian cabinet announced in 2015 formation of this sever persons committee to provide the Jordanian nuclear program with the high expertise of a group of international experts and to make recommendations and communicate opinions that ensure that the program meets the most important requirements and standards of safety and security and to ensure adherence to them.
