King Abdullah II stressed on the importance of producing nuclear energy to boost the competitiveness of the Jordanian economy, pointing out that this project must be done in partnership with the private sector and with international support.

The King stressed the need to ensure the highest levels of safety and performance, and to take advantage of the rapid technological developments in the world in this field.

The head of the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Dr. Khaled Touqaan, gave a brief about the progress of the Jordanian nuclear program with its three aspects: uranium exploration and mining, Jordan’s research and training reactor at Jordan University of science and technology and the construction of a nuclear power plant for the purpose of electricity generation.
