Algeria creates its new Safety Authority

The Official Gazette published a new law No. 47 of 25 July 2019. It organizes the peaceful use of energy and nuclear techniques.

The Prime Minister will create the National Authority for Nuclear Safety and Security. Its purpose will be to ensure the respect and application of the rules of nuclear safety and security and radiation protection.

The law signed by President Bensalah emphasizes nuclear safety, which aims to protect individuals, society, and the environment against potential radiological risks.

Algeria already has two nuclear reactors in Draria, in the southern suburbs of Algiers, and Ain Oussera, near Djelfa (270 km south of Algiers).

Finally, Algeria, which signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1995, has already negotiated with France, the US, and Russia on a vast program of nuclear cooperation.
