Main participants of the XXXII Brazilian Nuclear Congress

The 32ndedition of the Brazilian Congress of Nuclear Medicine focused mainly on the need to facilitate access to the Nuclear Medicine resources to the public. It focused on the concern with supplying inputs and strengthening this specialty in the country. IPEN, as one of the pioneers in the research and production of radiopharmaceuticals in the national scope, as well as the Directorate of Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety (DRS) with the National Commission of Nuclear Energy (CNEN), participated in the event .

The president of CNEN, Paulo Roberto Pertusi, represented the Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC), Gilberto Kassab, at the opening ceremony of the event that also had the participation of IPEN Superintendent Wilson Calvo. Among the other authorities present, the president of the Brazilian Society of Nuclear Medicine (SBMN), Juliano Cerci, the president of the Congress, Marcia Tavarese, general Sergio Etchegoyen, minister of the Office of Institutional Security of the Presidency of the Republic. In his speech, Etchegoyen exhorted the importance of Nuclear Medicine as State policy.

Key sessions hold during the second day:

  • “Radiofarmácia – Neuroimagem” with the participation of researcher Regina Célia G. Carneiro from the Radiopharmacy Center (CR).
  • “Radiopharmacy – New PET Radiopharmaceuticals”, (Production of Lu-177-PSMA: Current Situation).
  • “The Development of Nuclear Medicine in Brazil”, with the participation of the technical coordinator of the Brazilian Multipurpose Reactor (RMB), José Augusto Perrotta and the director of Radiopharmacy of IPEN, Jair Mengatti, José Carlos Bressiani, the superintendent of IPEN, Wilson Calvo, the chief executive of Amazul and the director of the Nuclear Medicine Service / HC, UNICAMP, Celso Dario Ramos, took part as moderators.
  • “Meeting with CNEN and associates” with the participation of Ricardo Gutterres, representing the Directorate of Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety, and Alessandro Facure, General Coordinator of Medical and Industrial Facilities (aspects of licensing but also about the current activities to strengthen the nuclear program ).

During the congress, the General Coordinator of Medical and Industrial Facilities and the Head of the Division of Medical Applications and Research (CNMP) of the CNEN, Carlos Eduardo Alves, participated in a technical meeting with the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and the Society Brazilian Nuclear Medicine (SBMN). The objective was to identify overlaps of competencies and possibilities of joint action.
